Seeing a health specialist about a particular condition (or for getting guidance about staying healthy), means booking an appointment, getting as many questions answered as possible, and then remembering how to put the advice into action.

It’s a model that works for health specialists, but not necessarily for patients.

When we first started consulting in private practice, I noticed a lot of my clients needed me in the time between sessions to ask questions, make decisions and build habits in the moment. I could easily understand why, as there are so many food-related questions to ask — and they just wanted to make the right decision each time.

To help with this, I gave them my personal mobile number so they could message me whenever they needed help.

When we grew and expanded into delivering sports nutrition, we offered mobile texting for advice as part of the service; making sure everyone could contact us whenever they needed to. That’s where our idea for Sophus started, and why we made sure that instant messaging would be a key feature — available for everyone — no matter where they are, when they need it most.

Unlike seeing a dietitian in person, clients can get personalised, instant support whenever or where-ever they are at a cost-effective rate.

Our personal dietitian coaching has proven to be a highly valuable feature on our app, as clients have told us how handy it has been to have the messaging feature available when they need it.

Being able to instantly message a qualified dietitian and get responses while looking at a restaurant menu, at a friend’s house or while doing the grocery shopping means making better food choices.

And for people with specific requirements — such as athletes or clients managing a medical condition, the instant message feature means so much more. It can add the world of value to their life. That’s why when we close our eyes each night we have a smile on our face, or that warm fuzzy feeling in our heart (I know…sounds cliché) — it’s because we get to help people everyday, wherever they are, when they need it most. And that’s pretty cool if you ask us!
